Fastest Cars in the World
50 Fastest Cars in the World
Speed has been a fascination for mankind for millennia. The competitive spirit of speed has been with us since ancient Greece when chariot races were held in Rome. The quest for speed began only after the first cars appeared in garages throughout Europe. Most family sedans can now go over 120 mph. Today, nearly every car is capable of 100 mph. Performance cars usually play between 140 and 170. Our need for speed goes beyond this.
It used to be that production cars were aiming for 200 mph. Now, they are aiming for 250 mph and 300 mph. To go faster, automakers are constantly working on adding more power, aerodynamics and electric motors. Note that some of these top-speed claims are made by the manufacturers, but only a few of these high-end supercars achieve these speeds.
Here’s the complete list of the top 50 fastest cars on the planet, ranked by their top speed. We’ve included the time it takes for each car to reach 60 mph, but we also wanted to give you some context and make it more realistic.
Ferrari LaFerrari
Top speed: 217 MPH
The LaFerrari was the first Ferrari supercar to debut in 2013. It had a global production limit of just 700 units (counting the coupe as well as the convertible). The LaFerrari was powered by a V12 engine and Ferrari F1’s hybrid system KERS. It had 950 horsepower and could reach 60 mph in under 2.5 seconds.
McLaren P1
Top speed: 217 MPH
The McLaren had a top speed of 217 mph seven years before the Speedtail, a car that you will see in the list below. The P1 was on par with the LaFerrari as one of the world’s fastest cars. The P1 was powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre hybrid V8 that produced 903 horsepower and 664 lb. ft. of torque. It could reach 60 miles per hour within 2.8 seconds.
Rimac Nevera
Top speed: 258 MPH
Rimac now teamed up with Bugatti, is adamant that electrification will be the future of performance with cars such as the Evera. The sleek Croatian Hypercar is powered by four electric motors that produce 1,914 horsepower, and 1,740 pounds-feet torque. While the top speed of 258 mph is impressive, the time it takes to reach 62 mph in just 1.97 seconds and the quarter-mile record-breaking time of 8.74 seconds on cold tyres are even more astounding. This time dropped to 8.58 seconds on properly warmed tires. Wild.
Mercedes-AMG One
Top speed: 217 MPH
Mercedes has taken the knowledge from its Formula 1 championship-winning team and applied it to road cars. The AMG One is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder 1.6-litre engine, three electric motors and 1,063 horsepower. It can reach 60 mph in 2.6 seconds and has a projected top speed of 217 mph. The $2.7 million Mercedes-AMG may not be as fast as some of the other cars in this list but it is still among the fastest cars on earth.
Pagani Huayra Codalunga
Top speed: 220 MPH
The Pagani Codalunga has been dubbed as one of the most powerful Huayra versions to date. Some might also argue that it is the most beautiful. Its twin-turbo V12 engine produces 840 hp and 811 lb. ft. of torque. This helps propel it to 220 mph.
Lamborghini Sian FKP 37
Top speed: 217 MPH
The first Lamborghini Hybrid is one of the fastest vehicles in Lamborghini’s history. The Sian FKP 37’s electrified V12 engine can deliver 819 horsepower, allowing it to reach 62 mph within 2.8 seconds. It can also reach a top speed of 217 mph.
Lotus Evija
Top speed: 217 MPH
The Evija, the first hypercar by Lotus is also the first electric vehicle from the brand. The Evija packs nearly 2,000 horsepower thanks to four electric motors, each of which generates around 500 horsepower. The Evija will reach 62 in under three seconds and top out at 217 mph.
Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport
Top speed: 218 MPH
The “slowest Bugatti” on this list is still able to reach 218 miles per hour. Chiron Pur Sport has a lighter body and more aggressive aerodynamics than its siblings. This means that it is more agile in corners, rather than just being fast in straight lines. It still has Bugatti’s quad-turbocharged, W16 engine with 1,479 horsepower.
Pininfarina Battista
Top speed: 218 MPH
Pininfarina Battista is an all-electric beast that delivers 1,900 hp (1,741 lb. ft. of torque) via a 4-motor setup similar to the Rimac Nevera. (The two cars share the same platform and are manufactured in the same Croatian factory. The Battista has a lower top speed than the Nevera (218 mph), but is faster to 60. Pininfarina is $500,000 cheaper than its platform-mate.
Aston Martin One-77
Top speed: 220 MPH
Aston Martin produced the One-77 in very limited quantities between 2009 and 2012, making it one of its most exclusive models. In that period of three years, the automaker produced just 77 vehicles. Each one was powered by a Cosworth-tuned 7.3-litre engine with 750 horsepower. The One-77 was able to reach 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and could race up to 220 mph.
Lambo Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae Coupe
Top speed: 220 MPH
Lamborghini has been synonymous with V12 engine performance for many years. But that will soon change. The new Aventador LP780-4 Ultimate is the final nail in the coffin of gas-only performance V12 engines at the Italian automaker before an electrified tomorrow. What a nail! The power is 769 hp and the torque is 531 lb. ft. These are modest numbers compared to other vehicles in this list. However, with a 2.8-second sprint to 60 mph and a top speed of 220 mph, the Aventador and its gas-powered V12 are well deserving of a send-off.
De Tomaso P72
Top speed: 221 MPH
De Tomaso has returned in a big fashion. The P72 was first unveiled at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed in 2019. Since then, several variants have been released. Each is a stunning car in its own right. The P72 is powered by a supercharged Ford 5.0-liter V8 and has 700 horsepower. It can reach 60 mph in under 3 seconds before accelerating to 221 mph.
Lamborghini Countach
Top speed: 221 MPH
This is not the original Countach. It is an Aventador-based Countach, which Lamborghini manufactured in very limited quantities between 2021-2022. The new Countach was powered by a hybrid 6.5 litre V12 engine that produced 803 hp. It could reach 60 in 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 221 mph. This is the fastest and quickest Countach built.
Lamborghini Veneno
Top speed: 221 MPH
The Veneno was one of Lamborghini’s most exclusive supercars. Only 13 Venenos were produced between 2013 and 2014. Veneno was able to reach 60 mph within 2.9 seconds and could achieve a top speed of 221.
Gordon Murray T.50
Top speed: 230 MPH
McLaren F1’s creator has launched a new company named after him. Gordon Murray Automotive makes the T.50. It has a V12 engine with a naturally aspirated Cosworth tuned to produce 654 horsepower and 344 lb.-ft.
Pagani Zonda R
Top speed: 233 MPH
Pagani produced the Zonda intermittently for a decade after its debut in 1999. Pagani stepped up the game at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show with the Zonda R. The Zonda R was powered by a Mercedes-Benz 6.0-litre engine and produced 740 horsepower. It could reach 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. This Zonda could reach a top speed of 223 mph when driven flat out.
Pagani Huayra BC Pacchetto Tempesta
Top speed: 236 MPH
Pagani Huayra BC Roadster, a long-lasting supercar from Pagani, is a unique entry in this list. This sleek V12 supercar with a mid-engine can reach 236 mph despite its excessive power. The 791-hp Huayra is the top of the Pagani range, with a price tag of $3.4million. In 2021, Pagani introduced a new Pacchetto Tempesta Package that increased power and torque by 25 hp. However, the company has not revealed how this will affect the top speed or 0-to-60 times.
Bugatti Divo
Top speed: 236 MPH
The Divo, like the Chiron Pur Sport, was also built for track use. The Divo has a larger grille to provide additional cooling. It also features extra aero elements in between the wheels and a massive rear wing for increased downforce. It still has a 1,500 hp, quad-turbocharged motor under the hood.
Pagani Huayra
Top speed: 238 MPH
In 2011, the Zonda’s success led to the creation of the Huayra, a faster and more beautiful car. The base Huayra was powered by a twin-turbocharged version of Benz’s 6.0 litre V12 engine. It had 730 hp and a top speed of ridiculous 238 mph. In the years to come, there were more powerful versions.
Bugatti Centodieci
Top speed: 240 MPH
Bugatti launched the Centodieci to celebrate its 110th anniversary. The Centodieci, a limited-production Chiron variant, is 44 pounds lighter and has the same 1,578-hp quad-turbocharged motor. The Centodieci can reach a top speed of 240 mph.
Deus Vayanne
Top speed: 248 MPH
Deus Vayanne is not as well-known as Bugatti and Pagani. The upstart supercar manufacturer rolled out the electric Vayanne Hypercar early last season with a claimed 2,200 horsepower and a planned limited production run for 2025. Deus is yet to prove its all-electric beast’s merit, but the company claims that this car has a top speed of 248 mph.
Koenigsegg CCR
Top speed: 241.0 MPH
After Koenigsegg released its first model, CC8S the automaker then followed up with a more powerful version. The CCR, introduced in 2004, had a twin-supercharged 4.7 litre V8 engine that produced 806 horsepower and 679 lb.-ft. of torque. This allowed it to reach 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. It also reached a top speed of 241 miles per hour.
Koenigsegg Gemera
Top speed: 249 MPH
The Koenigsegg Gemera, with its four-seater interior and three-cylinder engine, doesn’t seem like the type of car that would make the list of the fastest cars in the entire world. It’s not until you learn that it is a Koenigsegg car, that things like seats and engine cylinder count are irrelevant. The spacious Gemera is equipped with 1,700 horsepower and 2,581 pounds-feet of torque. This car can reach a top speed of 249 mph, and it will go from 0-60 in just 1.9 seconds. It is a great way to scare your friends. Three electric motors work in tandem with the twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre three-cylinder engines to achieve this insane performance. Prices begin at $500,000 which is not too outrageous for Sweden’s most powerful performer.
Ferrari Enzo
Top speed: 218.7 MPH
It’s not enough to name a car for your founder. You have to make it an epic endeavour. Ferrari is fortunate that the Enzo will go down in history for being one of Maranello’s greatest achievements. The Enzo’s powerful 6.0-litre engine produced 650 horsepower and 485 lb.-ft. of torque. It was able to reach 60 miles per hour within 3.3 seconds. Even 20 years after the first Enzo left the production line, it is still one of the fastest cars ever.
Aspark Owl
Top speed: 249 MPH
Aspark is not a name that comes to mind, but their hypercar, the Owl, is among the fastest electric cars in the world. The Aspark Owl, which debuted at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017, has four electric engines that produce 1,984 horsepower and 1,475 pounds-feet of torque. This thing can reach 60 in just 1.7 seconds and tops out with 249 mph.
Koenigsegg Agera R
Top speed: 249 MPH
The base Agera is already ridiculously fast out of the package. The Agera R, however, was equipped with a twin-turbo 5.0-litre engine that produced 947 horsepower and 811 lb.-ft. of torque. This helped it reach 62 mph within 2.8 seconds before accelerating to 249 mph. It’s not the fastest Agera on this list.
Aston Martin Valkyrie
Top speed: 250 MPH
Aston Martin never played the hypercar game but instead focused on building beautiful and excellent grand tourers. The Valkyrie represents a shift in strategy – the result of a partnership between Aston Martin and its Formula One partner Red Bull Racing to create a world-beating Hypercar.
It’s not just the power that matters. The Valkyrie is powered by a Cosworth V12 with a hybrid system. This engine produces 1,160 hp and 664 lb.-ft. of torque. The V12 has a redline of 11,000 rpm. This mid-engine Aston can reach 60 in just 2.5 seconds on the right roads and go on to a maximum speed of 250 mph.
Tesla Roadster
Top speed: 250 MPH+
Elon Musk has promised a new Tesla Roadster for many, many many years. When it finally reaches production, Elon Musk says it will be among the fastest cars in the world. It would also be among the fastest cars on this list with an estimated 0-60 speed of 1.9 seconds.
McLaren F1
Top speed: 240.1 MPH
The McLaren F1 was one of the first supercars to be produced. It is also considered one of the fastest. The F1’s 6.1-litre BMW V12 produced 618 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. It reached a top speed of 240.1 miles per hour. The F1’s lightweight and aerodynamic design helped it reach its record-breaking speed.
W Motors Fenyr SuperSport
Top speed: 250 MPH
The W Motors Fenyr SuperSport, named after the giant wolf from Norse Mythology, is as fierce as its name implies. The Fenyr SuperSport is powered by a RUF twin-turbocharged flat-six engine with 799 horsepower and 723 lb.-ft. of torque. This type of power enables it to reach 60 mph in 2.7 seconds and has a maximum speed of 250.
McLaren Speedtail
Top speed: 250.4 MPH
McLaren is the brand that knows most about creating record-breaking hypercars. The Bugatti Veyron broke the record held by the legendary F1 for more than two decades. McLaren Speedtail may not be able to reclaim F1’s 250-mph record, but its 1,036 horsepower and $2 million price tag make it the most beautiful car on this list. The 250.4 mph top speed is impressive as is the 2.9-second sprint from zero to 60. We do not doubt that the Speedtail can reach a maximum speed of around 100 mph, unlike the Jesko F5 and Venom F5.
Bugatti Veyron
Top speed: 253.8 MPH
The Bugatti Veyron used to be the fastest car in the world. In the eight years that have passed since the last Veyron was built, a lot of things have changed. The Veyron, which boasted 987 hp, 922 lb.-ft. of torque, and a quad turbocharged W16 motor, could still reach 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. It also had an impressive top speed, reaching 253.8 mph at one time.
SSC Ultimate Aero
Top speed: 257.2 MPH
SSC, formerly Shelby SuperCars, had a speed record car called the Ultimate Aero before the record-breaking Tuatara hit the market. The Ultimate Aero was powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that produced 911 hp, and 711 lb.-ft. of torque. In 2007, the Ultimate Aero broke the Guinness World Record as the fastest production vehicle with an average top speed of 257.3 mph.
Bugatti La Voiture Noire
Top speed: 260 MPH
The stunning La Voiture Noire has been created to celebrate Bugatti’s 100th anniversary. The Bugatti 1,500 hp still reaches a top speed of approximately 260 mph despite its outrageous $13.4 million price tag and dramatic design changes over the standard Chiron.
Bugatti Mistral
Top speed: 261 MPH
The roadster is essentially a variant of the Chiron. We’re not complaining, but it was launched last year in Pebble Beach with the same W16 quad-turbocharged engine that powers the entire Bugatti range. The Mistral’s top speed is 261 mph, despite the engine only delivering 1,577 horsepower.
Zenvo TSR-GT
Top speed: 263 MPH
Zenvo only introduced the TSR-GT last year. However, the company claims a top speed as high as 263 mph. The TSR-GT has 1,379 horsepower from its twin-supercharged V8 engine.
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport
Top speed: 267.9 MPH
Bugatti sent out the Veyron with a bang. In 2010, the 16.4 Super Sport added several hundred more horses to the standard Veyron. The total output was now 1,200 hp with 1,106 lb.-ft. This extra power resulted in a 0-60 speed of 2.4 seconds, and (at that time) a top speed of 267.9 miles per hour.
Hennessey Venom GT
Top speed: 270.5 MPH
Hennessey’s first-speed king was the Venom GT. The Venom GT, with its 1,244 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged V8 engine and 7.0-litre 7.0-litre, achieved a top speed of 270.5 miles per hour in 2014. It beat Bugatti’s production-car speed record.
Bugatti Chiron Super Sport
Top speed: 273 MPH
The Super Sport is not the most aerodynamic version or the most powerful Chiron. But it still manages to reach a staggering 273 mph. The Super Sport is powered by the same quad-turbocharged W16 engine that powers the Bugatti range. It packs 1,577 horsepower.
Koenigsegg One:1
Top speed: 273 MPH
The Koenigsegg One:1 is named after its power ratio of 1,360 PS to 13,60 KG in metric measurements. This translates into 1,341 horsepower and 2,998 lbs in the US. The One:1 has a 0-60 speed of 2.5 seconds and reaches a top speed estimated at 273 mph.
Bugatti Bolide
Maximum Speed: 311 MPH
The Bugatti Bolide, a track-only vehicle, is undoubtedly the wildest creation ever to come out of Molsheim. The Bolide is based on the Chiron’s platform and uses the vehicle’s quad-turbocharged 8.0 litre W16 engine. It then feeds the engine 110-octane race fuel to help boost the output. This results in 1,825 horsepower and 1,365 pounds-feet, an increase of 247 horsepower and 185 lb. ft. compared to the Chiron Super Sport 300+.
Even with track-focused aerodynamics in place, the top speed of the Bolide is 311 mph, compared to 304 mph for the Chiron. Bugatti confirmed that the Bolide range had been sold out by 2022.
Koenigsegg Agera RS
Top speed: 277.9 MPH
Koenigsegg’s Agera RS officially broke the record in 2017 for the fastest car on the planet. The company closed down an 11-mile stretch of highway where its hypercar averaged 277.9 miles per hour. The record was beaten in the past by Bugatti but the 1,160 hp Agera remains one of the fastest ever cars. The Agera RS can reach 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds.
SSC Tuatara
Top speed: 295.0 MPH
Ah, the SSC Tuatara. After some uncertainty regarding its first attempt, the American automaker made a second run in early 2022. It set a blistering speed of 295.0 miles per hour at Space Florida’s Shuttle Landing Facility. This is a lot slower than the alleged average speed of 316 mph, but this was still fast enough to give this supercar the temporary title of the fastest production car in history. It’s a fitting price for a car that costs $1.9 million.
Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster
Maximum Speed: 300 MPH
Venom F5 Coupe is claimed to have a top speed of 311, mph. Hennessey claims that its F5 Roadster can still reach over 300 mph when the roof is removed. The hardtop’s twin-turbo, 6.6-liter engine produces 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 pounds-feet of torque.
Koenigsegg CC850
Maximum Speed: 300 MPH
Koenigsegg’s second-fastest car made its debut in Pebble Beach last year with retro styling and a semi-manual transmission. It also had some impressive performance. Koenigsegg claims that the CC850, with its twin-turbocharged 5.0 litre V8 engine sourced directly from the Jesko, will be able to exceed 300 mph. It should also be able to reach 60 mph within 2.7 seconds.
Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+
Top speed: 304.8 MPH
Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ has a top speed of 304.8 miles per hour. Its quadruple-turbocharged, 8.0-liter W16 engine shocked us in the Veyron and Veyron Super Sport, but this monstrous engine is on an entirely different level in the newer Chiron Super Sport 300+. The range-topping Chiron, with 1,600 hp (1,180 lbft) and 1,600 hp (600 hp & 193 lbft more than Veyron), can reach 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds. It also can exceed 300 mph, as its name implies. Bugatti’s official testing recorded 304.8 mph.
SP Automotive Chaos
Top speed: 310 MPH+
SP Automotive Chaos, a little-known company, arrived late last year with the promise of 3,000 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged 4.0 litre V10 engine. It also promised hybrid assistance. Although we haven’t seen any of these cars yet, the company claims its new hypercar can reach speeds of over 310 miles per hour. The SP Automotive Chaos is a car that boasts the most insane stats. It has a 0-60 time claimed to be 1.8 seconds and carries hefty price tags of $14.4 million.
Hennessey Venom F5
Maximum Speed: 311 MPH
Hennessey Performance Engineering in Texas is a bunch of crazy people who know their stuff when it comes to speed. Hennessey says the Venom F5 can reach speeds of 310 mph. This is thanks to the twin-turbo, 6.6-litre, V8 engine that delivers 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 pounds-feet of torque. Hennessey plans to build 24 of the cars, even though its price starts at $1.8m, which is less than some European rivals.
Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut
Top speed: 330 MPH
Koenigsegg claims that the Jesko Absolut, even though the Chiron Super Sport 300+ technically is the fastest car in the world (though the company has not yet put these claims to the test). The $2.8 million Swedish monster is a formidable high-speed car with 1,600 hp, 1,106 lb. ft and a twin-turbocharged V8 producing 1,600 hp. It also has a body that offers significant downforce and is equipped with a slippery surface. We wouldn’t expect the Jesko to reach 330 mph. The Ehra-Lessien testing grounds in central Germany belong to Bugatti’s parent company Volkswagen.
Czinger 21C
Top speed: 281 MPH
Under its hood, the partially 3D-printed Czinger 21C conceals a twin-turbo 2.9-litre flat-plane crank V8 with 1,233 horsepower. The car’s 2,734-pound curb weight and all-wheel drive allow it to reach 62 mph within 1.9 seconds. The company claims that it can reach a top speed of up to 281 mph if the road is right. Czinger, a relative novice in this space, has already broken several lap records.
